Love

Have you noticed how divisiveness has grown? There was a time when the news was just that, without the addition of hyperbole or name-calling. Now, people choose news outlets that ensure they only receive one world view.

Even in my own denomination, The United Methodist Church, the fires of fear and hate were stoked by power-hungry despots who never valued inclusiveness or diversity. So, we Christians divided again, publicly and loudly, turning more against God and God’s love. When we are more interested in picking sides them growing God’s kingdom, love fails and so do we.

Jesus Christ still reigns  — right in the middle of betrayal and heartache Jesus says this in John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

Jesus didn’t say, “Love when it’s easy” or “Love the people who agree with you.” He said, “Love like I do” — sacrificially, humbly, even when it costs you.

What if today we chose love over being right? When we love like Jesus, people notice. And that love changes everything.

Let’s be known by our love.
