Carrying The Cross

Have you ever been asked to do something you didn’t plan for—something hard, inconvenient, or even life-changing? That’s exactly what happened to Simon of Cyrene. He was just passing by when Roman soldiers forced him to carry Jesus’ cross (Mark 15:21).

At first, it must have felt like an unfair burden. But think about it, Simon was the only person recorded in Scripture who physically carried Jesus’s cross. What seemed like an interruption became an invitation to walk alongside Jesus Christ in His suffering.

Sometimes, God calls us to carry burdens we didn’t choose—helping a struggling friend, forgiving someone who hurt us, or standing up for what’s right. And in those moments, we’re not just doing good deeds; we’re participating in God’s love.

Jesus said in Matthew 16:24, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

So, here’s your challenge, when life hands you an unexpected cross, don’t resist it. Embrace it. Because when you carry the cross, you walk with Jesus. And that’s exactly where we’re meant to be.
