Are we pretending? Or, are we participating in God’s mercy? Two men went to the temple to pray — one proud, one humble. The Pharisee stood tall and said, “God, thank you I’m not like those people.” The tax collector stood far off, beat his chest, and prayed, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.”
Jesus said that man — the humble one — went home right with God. Real faith isn’t about pretending we have it all together. It’s about participating in God’s mercy with humility and gratitude. When we stop pretending and start confessing, mercy reigns. We are made right with God not by what we do, but because of what Christ has done. So this week, don’t pretend— participate. Lord, be merciful to us. This is where God’s mercy and grace begins.
